“Hurricane”

This is my version of the song “Hurricane,” originally recorded by Levon Helm, available as a digital download in streaming, CD and/or high resolution formats.

Originally recorded by Levon Helm, I was inspired to record “Hurricane” after living through the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina (2005) and Ida (2021) in New Orleans. With the effects of climate change and two centuries of political greed, Louisiana’s protective coastal barriers are nearly non-existent, making our communities and culture at risk with any tropical system. This song delivers the resolve of the proud people of Louisiana to weather any storm. 

Personally, it feels like these lyrics were written for me. Hurricane Ida knocked an oak tree into our house and studio, just as we were re-entering life from the isolation of the pandemic. It took 16 months to rebuild our home and another six months for the studio to be completed. It’s hard to measure the emotional and physical strain during this time. One thing for sure, it was not normal.  “Musically, I wanted to convey a sense of resolve through chaos, the determination to get up after being knocked down, driven by pride in who they are and where they live.”

“Hurricane” is my Ida recovery.
