One album that definitely drew me to the Hammond B3 organ was the first record by the Blues Brothers, “Briefcase Full Of Blues.” I was twelve years old and it was my first time hearing the blues. The band was so incredible. The shuffles that Steve Jordan and Duck Dunn laid down were tremendous. The horns were simply jaw dropping. I was just so blown away by it. And then there was that organ sound, Paul Shaffer’s organ sound. The intro to “I Don’t Know”, the rhythm on “Groove Me” and “Messin’ With the Kid”, and the chordal background on “Shotgun Blues” prepared me for my early Bourbon Street days.
